It’s the MOBA cycle all over again. First we have quite popular mod (ARMA BR and W3 DOTA) and their creators making a standalone version that becomes disgustingly succesfull (PUBG and LOL). Then, the big gun devs pour obscene amouts of money to create big budget copies to try grab a piece of the cake for themself while it’s still hot (DOTA2, HotS and Fortnite, Blackout). At this point the market is quite saturated and all small time studios that want to get some of those red hot dolla dolla billz from <currently-popular-genre> fans usually fail pretty quickly (Gigantic, Infinite Crisis and Radical Heights, The Culling 2). So what’s next for BR games? PUBG will probably see a decline in playerbase, but will remain popular enough for Bluehole to support it for next few years, BFs and CODs will come and go like they do every year, probably keeping BR as one of the modes but not relying on it completely. And Fortnite will inspire 12 year olds to perform cringy dance moves in public until the sun collapses on itself and the human race will die out. Or until next game type fad will come and the whole industry will change focus once again. Maybe finally some pig based gameplay, hmm?
